Breakout Force

The maximum force a bucket or attachment can generate when curling or closing against a fixed object.

Definition

Breakout force is typically measured at the cutting edge of a bucket and is used to gauge how effectively a loader or excavator can dig into compacted material or break loose an obstruction. Excavators and loaders often publish separate bucket and arm (dipper) breakout force figures.
