Ground Pressure
The force a machine exerts on the ground per unit area of track or tire contact, usually expressed in kPa or psi.
Definition
Lower ground pressure spreads a machine's weight over a larger contact area, allowing operation on soft, wet, or sensitive terrain (such as turf or wetlands) with less risk of sinking or surface damage. Wider tracks or dual tires reduce ground pressure for a given operating weight.
